Hosseinabad Semi-Antique Medallion Red Wool Hand Knotted Persian Rug - 5'2" x 7'11" N14607

Centred on the red field is a small ivory diamond medallion with a six-petalled rosette inside, holding the eye in the middle while the rest of the composition runs in a dense Herati allover pattern across the rest of the field. This Hosseinabad rug was hand knotted in the 1960s in one of the larger Hamadan-region villages of west-central Iran. The Herati motif, with its small diamonds, curling vines, and serrated leaves, has been the village's signature for generations. A deep navy border carries stylized animal and floral figures along the perimeter. The wool is the hard-wearing kind Hamadan-area weavers are known for, slow to mat and easy to live with. Six decades in, the field has settled into a soft, even register.
