The palette is the loudest in our Maimana collection right now, with a saturated magenta field running down the centre, three large stacked diamond medallions outlined in ivory and brick red, and side panels stacked with smaller four-petal florals in a different colour combination on every block. Hand woven in Pakistan in the Maimana slit-tapestry flatweave that originated in northern Afghanistan. The brightness is not random, it is built from a long tradition of weavers using whatever yarns the household had on hand for the year, which is why old Maimana kilims often surprise you with one unexpected colour in the mix.
